Musae was conceived between February and May of 2023, stemming from hauntingly meaningful unfinished material conveying a varied sonic exploration from guitar samples and field recordings from beaches in the North of Portugal, Esmoriz, rural areas of viseu and urban contexts of Porto. The decision of the cassette release is somewhat illustrative of the hauntological character that the concept of this work possesses, hence opting for a physical release in this format. The Muses transcend any traditional notion associated with the feminine figure, being life lessons that catalyse a restless pursuit of meaning, constructively deconstructing beliefs and values of the past, and exalting the duality between who we were and who we aspire to be. It is in this process in which one simply exists, that the Muses consolidate themselves into a brief selection of sound pieces that accompanied a significant part of this journey. This work is dedicated especially to the wonderful individuals who are no longer with us, in particular my grandmother Virgínia and Filipe Félix, a generous and incomparable spirit in creative encouragement for the Viseu community, as well as to all the others who are still here and whose briefest mirage still makes a difference.
