Like a bolt from the blue, Shanghai mutant junglist Hyph11e drops a delivery of potent and murky techno menace beyond even the auditory claustrophobia of her 2020 LP Aperture. A hellish screech opens up ‘Barnacles’, as discordant stabs drape themselves across a subterranean glow of harsh noise-inflected pads. Gradually, a thumping kick propels the tune forward into trilled metallic rhythms, and we land firmly within the realm of a score to an imaginary yet unspeakably horrific slasher film. Kode9 emerges on the flip-side, turning the auditory gore into something no less startling; a sly banger with shredded, mauled DnB breaks.
