Population One Edge Of The Visible Universe

Population One has long been the place to go for Terrence Dixon’s trackiest techno tackle in a vein shared by Claude Young, Jeff Mills, and Rob Hood. ‘Edge Of The Visible Universe’ makes no changes to the project’s classic formula of mainlining 909s and bittersweet sci-fi synths on all four counts as he continues to find marbled variation within that microcosm of style and pattern. They all sound as though produced live, hands-on, in the moment, following lines of thought from the reticulated clap attack and spiralling arps of its title track, thru the industrialised warehouse buck and servo-motor controlled synth balance of ‘Up Hill Battle’ to the gnarly turmoil of ’Suddenly’, with its sinuous tackiness suddenly pitchign into proper club mania. ‘My Location’ is, however, cut from a jazzier strain of practice shared with recent offbeat Mills missions, strolling on double bass-led deep house groove layered with siren call leads and Dixon’s over-the-shoulder whispers.
