Fernando Fadigas PLAY PAUSE | XXV Years of Music at Pogo Teatro

PLAY PAUSE | XXV Years of Music at Pogo Teatro, brings together a body of work developed over the past twenty-five years with Pogo Teatro, a celebration I share with the public and this collective that has been active in the performing and visual arts since 1993. The collection includes music and soundscapes for multimedia shows, performances, installations, videos and exhibitions produced since 1999. The presentation concert revives many of the images and sounds from the Pogo archive now reissued in an audiovisual work by Sandra Zuzarte. The compositions appear in reverse chronological order, starting from the latest production to the oldest, from Inactual (2025) to the closing credits of Mainstream (1999). These compositions live between a true and virgin nature, a fake and dystopian soundscape. You travel through the space-time of a hard drive. Between friends and conversations, real or virtual realities, arcade games and pinball, we remain together fixated on a computer. Indeed nostalgia is embraced in reverse - from a glitch poem to the human voice. What might a sci-fi dream have felt like in the 20th century? Compared to today… as weightless as magnetic tape in the wind. MAINSTREAM (1999) — multimedia theatre at CCB, Lisbon. Original soundtrack composed at Trombeta Studio (Bairro Alto, Lisbon) between March and August 1999 with JP and Sid (Forever connected “MaMan”…) PLAY PAUSE (2001) — site-specific performance combining theatre, music, performance, video, and installation (car track), merging with the dance floor of Lux-Frágil, Lisbon. "Tedious" with voices by Catarina Gageiro & Luís Elgris. PUNCHLINE (2004) — “Amortie” is the only original music from the show presented at ZDB. Extracted from a MiniDV tape. Synthetic voice and soundscapes by Rui Viana Pereira. PULL OVER (2009) — multimedia performance for the Art & Nature cycle, curated by José Quaresma (FBAUL), presented at the Botanical Garden of the National Museum of Natural History and Science, Lisbon. SET BY SET (2012) — multimedia performance for Super Stereo Demonstration at Teatro Maria Matos, Lisbon. These studio tracks were taken from the first part of the performance, featuring Luís Elgris and Félix Lozano (actors) and Sandra Zuzarte (video). Afterwards, the soundtrack was performed live by Alexandre Rendeiro (guitar), Bárbara do Canto Lagido (vocals, guitar), Fernando Fadigas (electronics), and Filipa Cordeiro (drums). QXT (2020–2022) — multimedia theatre. The soundtrack exists in several versions: video, stage, ambient, and online at www.qxt.pt Sound installations presented in Pogo shows & exhibitions: INACTUAL (Lisbon, 2025) PARQUE HUMANO (Lisbon, 2023) FANTASMA DA LIBERDADE (Zoo, Caldas da Rainha, 2021) WETRANSFER SANDOKAN (Lisbon, 2020) POST SEINFELD (Lisbon, 2023/24) BONUS / EXTRA TRACKS Recordings, footage, voices, radio spots, pinball machine. SET BY SET – “Mudou a Hora” (excerpt) — voices by Rui Otero and Carla Cardoso. QXT – “Quando É Que Pagam?” (video excerpt) — voices by Luís Elgris and Vítor Freitas. VIDEO HOME SYSTEM – Radio Spots — based on recordings and conversations held at Esplanada da Graça in 2011. SALÃO DE JOGOS / ARCADE – Pinball Machine (Flippers) — voices by Olinda Gil and Sandra Zuzarte. SALÃO DE JOGOS / ARCADE - Loading#4 — excerpt from a sound installation composed of four retro gaming themes. QXT Video VI — originally “Sun Lovers” by Mouco (aka Fernando Fadigas) with video by Sandra Zuzarte, released on the BlackHoleTimeWarp label. Promotional videos for the album “Play Pause — XXV Years of Music at Pogo Teatro” directed by Sandra Zuzarte. Videos: #16 PLAY PAUSE "Manual Rewind" & #22 MAINSTREAM "Final". TNX: Sandra Zuzarte and Francisco Fadigas for their creative support and for programming the website. Luís Elgris and Ruy Otero for their friendship and the original invitation in 1999. João Timóteo for guiding me through QXT. Rui Viana Pereira for the early collaborations, experiments and guidance in his home studio, and also for mastering Mainstream, Play Pause and Punchline.
