The "Prepare Jah Man" 7" by Don "Jah" Carlos was released on Wackie's / Dkr and makes an early track by the singer, previously rarely available on single, available on 45 for the first time. Here, Don "Jah" Carlos is directly connected to the Wackie's / Joe Morgan / Soul Syndicate universe, which gives the release both historical depth and the characteristic dub feel that leans heavily on rhythm and echo. The A-side documents Don "Jah" Carlos's vocals over a striking rhythm track that was recorded in Jamaica, where the tune was also voiced; the mix and overdubs were then done at Wackie's in New York City. On the B-side you get an instrumental "version" featuring Soul Syndicate, which breaks the piece down in classic dub fashion and brings the production elements to the forefront. The release slots into Don "Jah" Carlos's body of work as a precise, no-frills production and at the same time highlights the productive collaboration between Jamaican sessions and the New York Wackie's studio. For fans of dub and classic Wackie's productions, the "Prepare Jah Man" 7" offers a compact, authentic imprint from that intersection between Kingston and NYC.
